Marius Alexander Jacques Bauer, taught by S. Van Witsen, was a pupil of the academy of arts in The Hague. Bauer visited dutch colonial Indonesia in 1925 and 1931 and took part in a number of exhibitions at Batavia and other main indonesian cities. His work was selected for the International Colonial Exhibition, Paris 1931. This collections was descroyed by fire. Bauer can be considered as one of the few Dutch orientalists. At the frontispiece illustration, original autograph of the author. Good copy.
